I didn’t realize how small I’d made myself until I saw those four words. Standing in that harsh bathroom light, eyes red and chest tight, I suddenly understood that my real problem wasn’t just the argument or his silence. It was how easily I accepted being dismissed, how quickly I swallowed my needs to keep the peace. That tiny Post-it felt like a quiet intervention from the universe, a nudge I could no longer ignore.
Walking back through the sliding doors, nothing about him had changed—but something in me had. I sat down in the passenger seat with a new question echoing louder than any apology he could offer: if I truly loved myself, would I keep calling this love? Sometimes the smallest message from a stranger doesn’t fix your life. It simply refuses to let you keep pretending.
